On the other hand, they typically have not had the time or opportunity to mess up their lives. We found this combination of high anxiety but low barriers to improving their circumstances to be refreshingly different from many of the adults we had worked with over the past 35 years. College students do not have careers they are “stuck” in, mortgages to pay, children to support, or burnout that has drained them of energy and courage.

We decided to use the adult application of the DISC in our work with college students. The language and content of these reports is more appropriate to the needs of college-age clients than the student version of the assessment. Even though these adult reports contain language that is applicable to the workplace, they easily translate to the circumstances and experiences of college students. We found that, like younger students, college students found their DISC reports to be not only enlightening but also encouraging.
